Moley Robotics is a <a href="Robotics" title="Robotics">robotics</a> company headquartered in <a href="London" title="London">London</a>, <a href="United_Kingdom" title="United Kingdom">United Kingdom</a>, that has developed the "first robotic kitchen"<a href="#cite_note-1">[1]</a> based on a multifunctional cooking platform.

Moley Robotics was founded by Russian and British mathematician, computer scientist and entrepreneur Mark Oleynik in 2015 to create <a href="Service_robot" title="Service robot">service robots</a> for <a href="Kitchen" title="Kitchen">kitchen</a> use.<a href="#cite_note-2">[2]</a><a href="#cite_note-3">[3]</a>

Moley Robotics was named after its creator: M. Oleynik. It trades as Moley Services UK Ltd.

Moley Robotics was founded with the aim of providing good food at home without the skills to make it.<a href="#cite_note-4">[4]</a> In 2015, Moley Robotics started working on a <a href="Robotic_kitchen" class="mw-redirect" title="Robotic kitchen">robotic kitchen</a>, which made its debut at the <a href="Hannover_Messe" title="Hannover Messe">Hannover Messe</a> <a href="Industrial_robotics" class="mw-redirect" title="Industrial robotics">industrial robotics</a> trade fair in <a href="Hannover%2C_Germany" class="mw-redirect" title="Hannover, Germany">Hannover, Germany</a> in April 2015.<a href="#cite_note-5">[5]</a>

In six years, Moley Robotics moved from a Proof of Concept to a market-ready robotic cooking platform, augmented with a smart kitchen environment.

The Robotic Kitchen has been distinguished in several international science and engineering events. In May 2015, the Robotic Kitchen won the "Best of the Best" <a href="Consumer_Electronics_Show" class="mw-redirect" title="Consumer Electronics Show">CES</a> <a href="Shanghai" title="Shanghai">Shanghai</a> award in <a href="China" title="China">China</a>.<a href="#cite_note-6">[6]</a> In January 2016, the prototype was a finalist at the first edition of the UAE <a href="Artificial_intelligence" title="Artificial intelligence">AI</a> & Robotics Award in the international category, health sector.<a href="#cite_note-7">[7]</a>

The Robotic Kitchen was launched on 6 December 2020,<a href="#cite_note-8">[8]</a> at <a href="GITEX" title="GITEX">GITEX</a> technology week in <a href="Dubai" title="Dubai">Dubai</a>. In January 2021, Moley Robotics exhibited at <a href="Consumer_Electronics_Show" class="mw-redirect" title="Consumer Electronics Show">CES</a>, presenting its multifunctional kitchen platform in detail. At these two exhibitions, Moley Robotics showcased strong market readiness, preparing around a dozen dishes, including various pasta, soups, risotto, and low-calorie dishes. In total, the recipe library can fit up to 5,000 meals.<a href="#cite_note-9">[9]</a>

<div class="mw-heading mw-heading2"><h2 id="Robotic_Kitchen">Robotic Kitchen</h2></div>

The first Moley Kitchen line is available in two broad versions—X-kitchen and R-kitchen.<a href="#cite_note-10">[10]</a>

R-kitchen includes two robotic arms and five-finger hands equipped with tactile sensors, developed in collaboration with Universal Robots and German robotic company SCHUNK, Moley's exclusive hand partner.<a href="#cite_note-11">[11]</a> SCHUNK put the robo-chef through 11 development cycles and 100,000 test operation cycles.<a href="#cite_note-12">[12]</a> These highly technological hands can pick up and interact with most kitchen equipment, such as blenders, whisks, and the <a href="Kitchen_stove" title="Kitchen stove">hob</a>.<a href="#cite_note-13">[13]</a>

X-kitchen is an <a href="Internet_of_things" title="Internet of things">IoT</a> cooking platform equipped with a smart fridge and storage in addition to the main cooking area. It includes a supported structure pre-set for future robotic module installation. X-kitchen can be upgraded to a fully automated robotic R model on the client's request.

Moley Robotic Kitchen facilitates limited human contact during food preparation and the integrated safe <a href="UV" class="mw-redirect" title="UV">UV</a>-disinfection<a href="#cite_note-14">[14]</a> of the worktop and the air in the cooking zone to minimize the risk of contamination.

Moley Robotics captures, with an integrated <a href="Stereo_camera" title="Stereo camera">3D camera</a> and <a href="Wired_glove" title="Wired glove">wired glove</a>, the entire work of a human chef and upload it into a <a href="Database" title="Database">database</a>.<a href="#cite_note-15">[15]</a> The chef's actions are translated into digital movements using <a href="Gesture_recognition" title="Gesture recognition">gesture recognition</a> algorithms. Later, The Robotic Kitchen reproduces the whole sequence of actions to cook an identical meal from scratch.<a href="#cite_note-16">[16]</a><a href="#cite_note-17">[17]</a>

Moley Robotics introduced a recipe creator tool to add new meals to its culinary library. The first recipe learned by Moley Robotic Kitchen was a crab bisque created by the renowned chef <a href="Tim_Anderson_(chef)" title="Tim Anderson (chef)">Tim Anderson</a>,<a href="#cite_note-18">[18]</a> the winner of 2011's MasterChef UK competition, restaurateur and author of several cookbooks. Renowned chefs, like <a href="Tim_Anderson_(chef)" title="Tim Anderson (chef)">Tim Anderson</a>, James Taylor, Andrew Clarke, Toni Tovanen, Ivan and Sergei Berezutskiy, Nicole Pisani,<a href="#cite_note-19">[19]</a> develop recipes for Moley Robotics culinary library.<a href="#cite_note-20">[20]</a>

The user operates the kitchen via a built-in <a href="Touchscreen" title="Touchscreen">touchscreen</a> or smartphone application with cooking ingredients prepared in advance and put in preset locations.

Moley's engineers developed this multi-functional kitchen platform in two modifications: for residential and commercial usage.
